Poughkeepsie Day School is an independent coeducational school serving students in the mid-Hudson valley, for Pre-K - 12th grade.

It was founded in 1934. Its original location was at Hooker and South Grand Avenues in the city of Poughkeepsie, where it began with 35 students and three faculty members.[1] In 1963, a capital campaign raised funds to build a new building on the Vassar College campus at 39 New Hackensack Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie, which became their location for 35 years. A new capital campaign in 1994, involving donations from individuals and grants from foundations, funded a move to a new location in buildings formerly owned by IBM on Boardman Road, which is the school's current location. The theater is named for school parent James Earl Jones, who funded construction and whose children attended the school. Pete Seeger, David Strathairn and Jack DeJohnette also had children who attended the school.
