Potpourri is P-MODEL's third album. At the time, The band's leader Susumu Hirasawa was trying to distance himself and the group from Technopop, which entered a heating boom during the year of release of LANDSALE. At the time, Hirasawa would organize a live show titled "Pop the Hero" (ポップ・ザ・ヒーロー), where the band played back videos of THE GREAT BRAIN and OHAYO, shed their colorful clothing for black/white/gray/blue apparel, Hirasawa started squeezing Yamato Glue on stage during SOPHISTICATED and would not play GLOBE, he also made the band not play a show until concertgoers complained. Hirasawa has said that he wouldn't be able to continue his career as a musician if he continued making Technopop, choosing his artistic vision over pleasing consumers. This album was made after bassist Katsuhiko Akiyama was fired from the group (who said it was due to him becoming too "feel good"), but before Tatsuya Kikuchi, attendee of Hirasawa's Synthesizer Lectures and High School Sophomore at the time, officially joined the group as their second bassist (he played bass in shows before this album's release), leading Hirasawa to record all bass parts of this album. The album has a harsher sound than LANDSALE, with the group employing completely different instruments and recording techniques, it's more Guitar based than the Keyboard based previous albums, has Hirasawa incorporating screaming in his vocals, uses bizarre compositions and experiments with ska beats and sound collages. At the time, the concert-going audience diminished due to the anti-pop sound, leaving only a core audience that would persist with Hirasawa throughout his career. The album was remastered by Hirasawa and re-released on the Ashu-on [Sound Subspecies] in the solar system box set on 10 May 2002; it was put on CD 2, with the then duology Dual Perspective and 4 installments of the Exercise for the Heavenizer series.
