Ponticola is a genus of gobies native mostly to fresh waters of Eurasia with a few marine species occurring in the Black and Caspian seas.[1] Originally, described as subgenus of Neogobius.

Note: While P. bathybius is listed by FishBase as belonging to the genus Neogobius, most other sources including the California Academy of Sciences Catalog of Fishes treat it as belonging to this genus.
