Pleasant Lake is an unincorporated town in Steuben Township, Steuben County, Indiana.

Geography

Pleasant Lake is located at 41°34′31″N 85°00′58″W / 41.57528°N 85.01611°W / 41.57528; -85.01611.

Pleasant Lake was originally called Nipcondish, which means pleasant waters. The town is named after the lake which is the focus of the town. There is a well maintained beach just behind the local elementary school. Since the town is unincorporated, the principle governing body is the Lions Club men's group. They are very active in the community and keep various properties in a good state of repair.

The community is a bedroom community for Steuben County and Fort Wayne, Indiana. Activities focus around the three churches ( United Methodist, Mennonite and Baptist), Baseball diamond, swimming, Lions Club events, and the local volunteer fire department. This community remains an agriculture oriented society.

There are several local businesses that survive the ravages of urbanization, loss of jobs and flight of young people in search of jobs and careers. These businesses tend to be entrepreneurial in nature and individual proprietorship's. They consist of auto dealers and repair, a wholesale bait shop, several home builders and construction builders plus small scale specialty bird breeders.
