Plaza Senayan is an upscale shopping mall located in Central Jakarta, Indonesia. The mall is only a few minutes by car from the Semanggi area, and is well-known among the upper-socioecnomic community in Jakarta; offering diverse high-end shops and services such as designer goods and gourmet food.

For youngsters, Plaza Senayan is a popular spot to see and be seen, and is a reflection of Jakarta's mall culture, where hip youngsters and fashionistas alike gather in shopping malls to hang out. The mall is also popular among Jakarta's expatriate community because of its excellent facilities and proximity to the city center.

Shops and facilities

Plaza Senayan is a three-storey shopping mall with two interconnected department stores on its two sides, Metro Department Store at the south end and Sogo Department Store on the north. The department stores are four or five storeys with a basement. Plaza Senayan is also home to the nation's second largest foreign bookstore, Books Kinokuniya.[1] after Times Bookstore in Lippo Village (Lippo Karawaci) West Jakarta.

The ground floor houses various designer boutiques, the second floor is dedicated to casual wear and the third floor is for food and entertainment. One of most popular food courts in the CBD is here. Singapore's famed Crystal Jade Restaurant recently opened its Indonesian flagship outlet in the mall. Adjacent to the mall is a five-story parking garage with more than 3,500 carpark spaces with a few shops on the ground, fourth and fifth floors of the parking building. A furniture shop is located on the ground floor, the newly renovated Plaza Senayan XXI cineplex and restaurant is on the fifth floor, with a bowling alley on the third floor. The cineplex has just been upgraded to 10 theaters, 8 standard and 2 premiere, with a completely new interior.

Marygold Clock

Another interesting feature of the mall is the Marygold Clock, a large musical clock that opens every hour. Made by Seiko, Japan, it houses 6 golden figures, each playing different musical instruments. These 'musicians' serenade visitors with pleasant, magical melodies. The musical clock is first of its kind in Jakarta.
