Plaza Indonesia is located in central Jakarta and is often referred to as "PI". Plaza Indonesia is the first high end shopping centre in Indonesia which opened its doors in mid-1990.[citation needed]
Plaza Indonesia is located on the prominent corner of Jakarta's famous landmark, The Selamat Datang (Welcome) Statue.
Plaza Indonesia Mall
Still leading as one of the finest shopping centres in the country, even in South East Asia, Plaza Indonesia received continuous commercial success since its opening, more than two decades ago. On its opening, the mall was previously occupied by Indonesia's first Sogo flagship department store as well as numbers of international fashion labels and jewelries.
The Sogo outlet inside the mall was closed down on February 28, 2007 and the former lot occupied by the large department store was fully renovated and revamped to make way for more luxury brands, such as Max Mara, Hugo Boss, Bally and Salvatore Ferragamo. The previous Sogo Supermarket, however, is still operating after being redeveloped into the Sogo Food Hall which is located on the Lower Ground floor.
Today, the mall houses numerous international brands, including Giorgio Armani, Christian Louboutin, Balenciaga, Fendi and many more. It was the first mall to house the first ever Zara store and Indonesia's first Starbucks outlet in the early 2000s. The mall boasts a myriad of food and beverage outlets, fine-dinings, authentic cuisines, cafés, as well as two food courts located on the Lower Ground floor and the fifth floor of the extension.
The mall is continuing to improve its market position, by welcoming more luxury brands to its portfolio, such as CHANEL, Celine, Burberry, Rolex, SAINT LAURENT, Christian Dior, Dolce and Gabbana, Bottega Veneta, and Indonesia's first Zara Home and Sephora store.[1]
American luxury brand TOM FORD will open a flagship boutique at the mall on 2015 through Valiram Group as its South East Asian franchisee.[2]
Entertainment X'nter
In 2003, the mall expanded and opened Plaza Indonesia Entertainment X'nter, or simply known as 'eX which linked by a bridge to the original shopping centre. Compared to the Plaza Indonesia Shopping Center, 'eX caters more to teenagers needs, such as electronics, musics, and a selection of sport boutiques. 'eX also house a bowling alley (SpinCity), Celebrity Fitness and Cinema XXI.
The mall was a complete success in the early 2000s, but decreasing when the original mall expands. Due to its low popularity these days, 'eX is planned to be demolished and become a new extension Plaza Indonesia Shopping Center.
Extension Project
The extension project of the Plaza Indonesia complex was originally planned to be started on 1998, and due to the economic crisis that year, the project was postponed and on-hold until early 2007. The development consists of Keraton Grand Hyatt Residence and a new office tower located above another new extension of the shopping centre, The Plaza Tower.
Louis Vuitton opened its global store on the extension of the mall, as well as a TOD'S and GUCCI flagship stores on the ground floor near the extension's atrium. French fashion house, Celine, opened their largest boutique in the country on the ground floor of the extension with the latest store concept.
Grand Hyatt Jakarta
Grand Hyatt Jakarta is also a part of this mixed-use development and is a prominent landmark in the city. The hotel was chosen several times as the city's best luxury hotel due to its fine maintenance. The hotel plans to renovate its rooms to keeping their luxury standard with other Grand Hyatt hotels around the world. The hotel consists many dining outlets, such as C's Steak & Seafood, Burgundy, a club and lounge which is a very popular place in Jakarta, Sumire - a Japanese restaurant, and more.
