Plamen Getov
Plamen Getov (Bulgarian: Пламен Гетов; born 4 March 1959) is a Bulgarian retired footballer who played as either an attacking midfielder or a striker.
A skillful free-kick taker, he scored numerous goals from different positions, in a career which spanned almost 20 years. Getov represented Bulgaria at the 1986 World Cup.
Football career
A native of Sungurlare, Burgas region, Getov played as a youth for PFC Spartak Varna, then represented professionally PFC Spartak Pleven (1979–88, 1995–98), FC Beloslav (a loan), CSKA Sofia (August–December 1988), FC Etar Veliko Tarnovo (1991–92), PFC Levski Sofia (1992–93), PFC Shumen (1993–94) and PFC Cherno More Varna (1994), also having spells abroad in Portugal with Portimonense S.C. (January 1989–1991, (being allowed to leave the country at age 30) and G.D. Chaves (January–June 1995).
He won the top Bulgarian league twice: with CSKA Sofia in 1989 and with Levski Sofia in 1993. Proclaimed the best player of the 1992–93 season, he added the league to the top scorer's crown, scoring 26 times at 34 years of age (had already won that award in 1985, with 26 for Pleven).
Getov retired with his first club at 39, having played a total of 286 matches with 165 goals in the country's top division, of which 108 for Spartak Pleven. For the Bulgarian national team, he amassed 26 appearances, netting four goals. He played all four matches at the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, scoring against South Korea in a 1–1 draw.[1]
