Pitsea station is a railway station located in Pitsea in Basildon, Essex, England.
The station was opened on 1 July 1855 by the London Tilbury and Southend Railway[1][2] The original station was replaced by another on an adjacent site on 1 June 1888.[2] It is 26 miles (41.8 km) distant on the main line from Fenchurch Street. The station was renamed Pitsea for Vange on 18 July 1932, but reverted to the original name Pitsea c. December 1952.[2]
The station and all services are operated by c2c.
The ticket office building
The new building was opened in October 2005. Derek Twigg MP (then rail minister) attended for the "ribbon cutting" in November 2005. The building houses customer toilets including a disabled toilet, as well as a retail unit.
The station also has four automatic ticket gates.
The ticket office
The ticket office is open Monday - Friday 05.15 - 22.00, Saturday and Sunday 06.15 - 22.00. It has two serving positions and uses the Tribute issuing system. Outside the ticket office is a customer operated self-service ticket machine that takes payment by both cash and cards.
Off Peak Service
The Monday-Friday off-peak and Saturday service pattern is:
- 2 trains per hour to London Fenchurch Street via Basildon. On Sundays there are 2 trains per hour to London Fenchurch Street.
- 2 trains per hour to London Fenchurch Street via Ockendon. On Sundays there are 2 trains per hour to London Fenchurch Street.
- 2 trains per hour to Shoeburyness. On Sundays there are 2 trains per hour to Shoeburyness.
- 2 trains per hour to Southend Central. On Sundays there are 2 trains per hour to Southend Central.
Pitsea is located on a junction between Basildon railway station or Stanford-le-Hope railway station and Benfleet railway station.
The station is immediately south of the A13 road, and adjacent to a level crossing which gives the main road access to the marshes area south of Pitsea and Basildon.
