Piper, Kansas
Piper is a formerly-unincorporated and semi-rural area of Kansas City, KS, similar to Turner. Piper was annexed in 1991. While not in the traditional center of Piper, the general area is home to the Schlitterbahn Vacation Village a 370-acre (1.5 km2) resort and waterpark, Cabela's, Nebraska Furniture Mart encompassing a total of 1.1 million sq. ft. of retail and warehouse space on 88 acres (360,000 m2) of land drawing visitors all over the United States, Great Wolf Lodge, the Kansas Speedway, the Legends at Village West, Hollywood Casino, MLS record holding soccer team Sporting Kansas City using Sporting Park stadium, and the CommunityAmerica Ballpark which is the stadium of the Kansas City T-Bones. Piper is the first full community in the nation (based off actual residential votes and pre-registration counts) to have residential broadband internet network infrastructures using fiber-optic communication of 1GB/sec download and upload speeds provided by Google Fiber. Piper is mostly rural and sparsely developed; other than the aforementioned commercial development, there are a handful of spread-out, suburban subdivisions. Kansas City, Kansas' rather small middle class is highly concentrated in Piper, and it is particularly notable for the concentration of police officers who live there. Most Piper residents are employed either with the city's (and county's) Unified Government or the city's Board of Public Utilities. Piper residents employed in the private sector are mostly blue-collar workers.
Education
Piper has its own school district known as Piper USD 203. It is one of four districts in Wyandotte County. Piper High School, Piper Middle School, Piper Elementary School, and Piper East Elementary School comprise the district. These schools will be the first in the nation to have Google Fiber bandwidth accessible for endless possibilities in the realm of education. From streaming foreign students and professors in the classroom for research, to real time communication with parents via smartphone and web chat rooms.
Piper High School is the top performing school in the metro area, based on state math and reading assessments as of May 22, 2012. The top ten performing schools in the metro area are listed below with their math and reading combined assessment score:[1]

In addition to the metro rankings, Piper High School is the highest performing school in the state in 4a, 5a and 6a. Piper High School is also ranked in the top 1% of all high schools 1A - 6A in the state of Kansas based on assessment performance.[2] The Piper Pirates 2012-2013 football team won its first regional bracket.[3] Sumner Academy of Arts and Science ranked number 1 in the State of Kansas and 69th in the nation in 2009 for best High Schools in America with college ready students.[4] Piper USD 203 shares Wyandotte County's school districts with 4 other school districts. Kansas City, Kansas USD 500, Bonner Springs USD 204, Edwardsville District 7, and Turner USD 202.[5][6]
