Pingtung, officially known as Pingtung City (Chinese: 屏東市; pinyin: Píngdōng Shì; Wade–Giles: Pingtung Shih), is the county seat of Pingtung County, Taiwan.


Geography

Pingtung City is located in Pingtung County, the southernmost county in Taiwan. It is located east of Kaohsiung and Fengshan, and centered between the western coast and the eastern mountain range. Many residents work in Kaoshiung and commute by train.

Climate

Like the rest of southern Taiwan, Pingtung City is located within the Tropics and has a tropical monsoon climate, temperature remains relatively consistent throughout the year, with warm to hot temperatures year-round. Occasional cold fronts during the "winter" can drop the temperature by 3-5 degrees Celsius making the city feel relatively cool with temperatures around 21-24 degrees during day time and occasionally below 15 degrees during the night time.
