The Pinakini Express is an express train in India which runs between Vijayawada Junction Financial,cultural & Commercial city in Andhra Pradesh and Chennai Central. It was introduced in 1991. This train is named after the Pinakini river. The Vijayawada Division of the South Central Railway division of the Indian Railways administers this train.
Numbering
Train Number 12711 runs from Vijayawada Junction to Chennai Central[1] while 12712 runs from Chennai Central to Vijayawada City.[2]
Route
- The train starts from Vijayawada at 0600 hours and reaches Chennai at 1300 hours the same day. In the return direction it leaves Chennai at 1410 hours and reaches Vijayawada at 2110 hours the same day. The train stops at Tenali, Nidubrolu, Bapatla, Chirala, Ongole, Singarayakonda, Kavali, Bitragunta, Nellore, Gudur and Sullurpeta.
Facilities
The Pinakini Express is usually hauled by a LGD WAP4 / WAP7. The 24 coach composition contains– 1 Pantry, 2 A/C Chair car, 8 Second sitting, 11 Unreserved and rest SLR.
Trivia
- Pinakini Express is the first train in the south to get a green toilet.[3]
- Pinakini Express is part of the three sisters that includes Ratnachal Express and Satavahana Express. These three trains depart Vijayawada for Chennai, Vishakapatnam and Secunderabad respectively at the same time.
- The first train Driver for Pinakini Express was Mr.Willam Henry Barnes (Special A grade Driver) from South Central Raily division, Vijayawada.
