Pierrefort is a commune in the Cantal department in the Auvergne region in south=central France.
It is approximately 130 km (81 mi) from Clermont Ferrand and 30 km (19 mi) from Saint-Flour

Pierrefort is situated between 600 m and 1400 m of altitude, in the south part of the department.

Climate
Pierrefort has cold winters characterised by heavy snowfall whilst summer temperatures often reach 30°C. Recently the period between May and August has been very dry.
