Piduguralla is a town and municipality in Guntur district in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is famous for its white cement and limestone industries; and its cotton, rice and chili pepper farming fields. Natural limestone is found in abundance and is the source of the town's nickname "Limecity" or "Mini USA".

Road transport and people

Piduguralla is located in the part of Palnadu around 70 km from Guntur and 240 km from Hyderabad. It is located on the Hyderabad - Chennai National Highway. The mandal is rich with minerals and surrounding villages are green with paddy fields. Most of the people depend on agriculture with fertile lands having abundant water from the Nagarjunasagar canals.

Piduguralla is well connected by bus with Guntur, Vijayawada, Miryalguda, Tirupathi, Karimnagar, Suryapet, Kodad, Warangal, Hyderabad (Dilsukhnagar, Kphb, Ecil, Bhel, Jeedimetla), Narasaraopet and Macherla, VI. It has a well established bus depot that connects villages around the town.

Industry

It has around 45 rice mills (par boiled and raw rice), 55 white cement factories, 6 roller mills and 25 poultry grit (limestone) manufacturing units. The place is one of the most industrialized towns in Guntur district. It has around 300 limestone kilns and lime hydrating mills and lots of cotton mills, five paint industries and recently two cold storage units were being constructed. Some 2-5 fly ash brick industries are present. The famous Surya Cem and Surya Colours is headquartered in Piduguralla and manufacturing is carried out there. There are nearly 15 H.D.P.E / P.P woven sacks stitching companies who supply rice bags to most of rice mills. Not only above mentioned ones there are lot of timber depots. Piduguralla is the city supplying white-lime to all of Andhra Pradesh. Limestone chips (poultry grit) is essential for making poultry feed. The calcium content in the limestone is the main factor for the formation of the hard white outside layer of hens' eggs. The units around Piduguralla, supply this material to Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Chattisgarh, Maharashtra, Westbengal and Madhya Pradesh. Limestone powder is the raw-material for making of wall putty and paints. Jaya Industries group is having eight poultry grit and roller mill industries in and around Piduguralla.

Rail transport

Trains to and from Guntur, Vijayawada, Vizag, Hyderabad, Chennai, Tirupathi, Kerala, Kolkata pass via Piduguralla. Later, the Guntur-Nadikudi-Macherla line was converted from meter gauge to broad gauge (under Project Unigauge) and a new line was laid from Bibinagar, near Hyderabad, to Nadikudi. Thus Piduguralla is connected directly to Hyderabad by broad gauge line. Piduguralla is located on the Pagidipalle-Nallapadu section Guntur division of South Central Railway (SCR). The railway Station code for Piduguralla is PGRL. The bus station code is PDRL.

Employment

The main profession of the people is cultivation and exporting limestone and white cement. The profession is not restricted to limestone, there are several industries like timber depots, hollow brick industries, agriculture based on cereals, rice and groundnut oil, educational institutions, computer institutions, extraction etc. Overall it is one of the most important business places in Guntur district.

Education

Education has a strong base in Piduguralla; there are more than 25 secondary grade schools, high grade school (Sri Sri Wisdom Model School run by Mr Ravi (maths teacher), A.B.C English medium high school, run by a 30 years experienced educationist Sri V.A Iyengar, Oxford Public School, Naveena Techno School-run by Naveena Mahila Education Society since 1992 Sri T. Bala Gangadhara Reddy and Venkata Rami Reddy (Mr Murphy) having more 20 years experience, Vikas public school, Vidhyardhi schools, Vivekananda schools), Srivani public school and Sri Chaitanya Bala Kuteer having, five junior and six degree colleges Nalanda Junior College, (D.Venkata Reddy) T.R.R & S Jr. and Degree College, 1 Geethika B.Ed & D.Ed. College and also one of the school which is past from 15 years is St Ann's English Medium High School. There are also many other corporate schools such as Narayana Techno schools and Sri Chaitany Techno schools. Narayana inter college also present.

Temples

  • Gangamma Talli temple is the first temple in Piduguralla.
  • Piduguralla's Ayyappa Temple is one of the most famous temples in Andhra Pradesh. Lord Ayyappa's temple is located on the highway to Hyderabad and close to the Prasannanjaneya swami temple. Because of the presence of this temple, the surroundings started being called as Ayyappa Nagar. This is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places in Piduguralla as it has a small park and play area for kids. There is a Shirdi Sai baba temple close to Vikas public school.
  • Sri Vasavi Kanyakaparemeswaree Temple is located in the area Island center Sri Kanana Durga Temple, Bahavani Nagar, Main Road, Piduguralla one of most famous and old temple Prasananjaneya temple in Brahmanapalli to Piduguralla road near Pedda Kaluva.
  • Sri venkateswara temple Devarampadu, this is near kondamodu. In this village every year conduct Tirunalla, Sri Lord Venkateswara swami. It starts after sivarathri coming Saturday and the ending is ugadi occusation. This village has only one leader he is Mr. Yerramsetty Krishnama Naidu garu, Sarpanch of this village. His family members are follow the good behaviour inner feelings of this village. People last 15 years.
  • Recently built Sri Prasannanjaneya Swamy Temple nearby overbridge, Prajasakthi Nagar in Piduguralla, this temple conducted every year Radhostavam and village Tirunalla. This temple President Sri Kakumanu Mallikharjuna Rao.

Since Piduguralla is the headquarters for villages around, Eseva and Meesava centers are located in Piduguralla. They are present in Ganapathi Complex and Siva Type & Computers institute respectively. Another Meeseva is located in brahmanapalli left of Panchayati office, Brahmanapalli.

Dolphin Technologies (Beside Gangamma Temple) is well-known for DTP (Desktop Publishing), Offset Printing (Stationary printing like Bill Books, Letter heads and Pamphletes) and other online works.

Nearby villages

  1. Morjampadu: The closest and one of the largest nearby villages on the road to River Krishna at Kamepalli.
  2. Govinda Puram: The 2nd closest on the way to River Krishna at Kamepalli and has a river bet but dangerous from here and also district boarder to Guntur and Krishna separated by the river Krishna.
  3. Kamepalli: Village beside the river Krishna. The river is almost 40 to 50 metres deep.
  4. Brahmanapalli: is the village on the state highway to Hyderabad from Guntur and has district's oldest Z.P.H school. This village has a large number of temples including the Prasanaanjaneya swamy temple, Poleramma temple, Patipatamma temple, Pandu ranga swamy temple, Shivalayam, Chowdeswari mata temple and Ramalayam temple. Recently the Shivalayam was renovated and grand function was held to commemorate this.
  5. Tummalacheruvu: one of the first village that was electrified in Guntur district. The temple of PanduRanga Swamy is very famous here. Every summer people pray to the god of goodness for 5 days called Tirunalla. It is connected by both road and rail.
  6. Pedagarlapadu: It is the village with 18th-century temple very famous Venugopala Swamy temple. Largest radham in palnadu area and radhayatra happens on every 3rd day of Srirama Navami.
  7. 'Karempudi: This is one of the places which is called as Palnadu Mukha Dwaram.
  8. Kothaganeshunipadu: Home of a famous old Baniyan tree, and also famous for ramalayam, nearest place of this village konda singaraiah (Loar lakshmi narasimha) hill, this village is famous for birthplace of pujya sri bhikshmaiah guruji (founder of Dhyana mandali)
  9. KotanemaliPuri: Very closest and divide the highways and recently two cold storage are built and also milk dairy
  10. Pillutla: Claimed to be one of the coolest village nearby Piduguralla, first school was established in this village (G.V.K.R.O High School). One of the player represented and captained the Ranji team, none other than Battula Siva Reddy. This school is famous bavanam venkatarami Reddy who was ex CM, he worked as a school teacher here, on his name one building is named as Venkataram Bhavan in this school. Ex-Tana President Bandla Hamumaiah is old student of this school.
