Philostratus (disambiguation)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Philostratus (Lucius Flavius Philostratus, "the Atheian") (170-247) was a Greek sophist of the Roman imperial period.
Philostratus may also refer to:
- Philostratus of Lemnos (c. 190 AD - c. 230 AD), a son-in-law and probably nephew of Lucius Flavius Philostratus ("the Athenian"), probably author of the first series of Imagines, a collection of descriptions of paintings. It was finished by his father-in-law after his early death; but some scholars hold that this is more ancient confusion, and the Imagines were written by his father-in-law.
- Philostratus the Younger (fl. 3rd century AD), grandson of Philostratus of Lemnos, above; author of a second series of Imagines.
