Phillip Thiel (born 29 October 1984), is an American rugby league and former rugby union player who currently plays for Life University in the Varsity Cup. He plays both hooker and prop after his stint with the American Super League Club, Life University. He was selected to tour with the United States national rugby union team, the Eagles, for the Autumn 2010 tour of Europe and most recently for the Autumn 2013 tour against the Maori All Blacks, Georgia and Russia. His debut with the Eagles was in November 2009 against Uruguay. He played in 3 matches for the USA in the 2011 Rugby World Cup.


After taking nearly 18 months off, Thiel returned to play for Life University for the 2013 Division 1 and Elite Cup Series[1] and was selected to represent Life University rugby at the Rugby Showdown against the Golden Lions as a member of the North American All-Stars before the event was canceled.[2] Thiel co-captained the USA Eagles Select team at the 2013 Americas Rugby Championship [3] where the Eagles finished second.[4]
