Peru Two

The Peru Two are the collective name of Michaella McCollum Connolly from Dungannon, Northern Ireland and Melissa Reid from Glasgow, Scotland, both 20 who, on 6 August 2013 were arrested for drug smuggling at Lima Airport in Peru, after their luggage was found to contain 11kg of cocaine.[1] They initially claimed they had been forced to carry the drugs by an armed gang. However, they subsequently pleaded guilty to drug smuggling in order to receive a lighter sentence. On 17 December 2013, the pair were sentenced to 6 years and eight months in prison.[2]

The duo have received extensive press in the UK and also around the world since their arrest.
