Perng Fai-nan (Chinese: 彭淮南; pinyin: Péng huáinán) is an economist in the Republic of China. He currently serves as the Governor of Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) since 25 February 1998.[1]
Career Stats
An economist took the banking world by storm in Taiwan with the advent of the millennium year 2000. And that man was none other than Perng Fai-nan, who in his short career span of just 13 years has been listed in the Global Finance magazine "world's top bankers" for an astounding eight years in a row. He has also been hailed as a savior of the banking sector in Taiwan as he pulled it through two near-disastrous financial times.[2]
His career popularity reached its apex when he was highly regarded as a prime candidate for the premiership of Taiwan, and during President Ma Ying-jeou's government, considered for the position of the cabinet head. But Perng's attachment, loyalty and dedication to his work in the banking world transcended over any interest in politics. A true workaholic, Perng works 364 days a year, taking just one day off for the Chinese New Year's Eve.[2]
As the governor of the central bank, Perng's forte is to keep a balance between Taiwan's export and foreign exchange flexibility on one hand and fostering economic growth and checking domestic inflation to its minimum.[2]
Christened by the business circle as "money-making brother", Perng in his 14 years with Taiwan' Central Bank is supposed to have steered the bank into becoming a "hen that lays golden eggs".[3]
“Perng’s re-appointment is a big help in maintaining stability in Taiwan’s financial environment,” says Taiwan's biggest money manager's Tsung-Sheng Liu, president of Yuanta Securities Investment Trust Co.[4]
