Musical career
Beginnings & Muddy Bee
Yourcodenameis:milo (2002–2007)
yourcodenameis:milo formed in 2002 Washington, Tyne and Wear with Mullen providing vocals, guitar and synthesizers, during the band's run. They released two albums, Ignoto and They Came from the Sun, as well as their breakthrough mini-album All Roads to Fault and collaboration album Print Is Dead Vol 1 which featured artists such as Gordon Moakes of Bloc Party, Tom Vek, Lethal Bizzle, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly and The Automatic.[1]
On 21 August 2007, YCNI:M announced that they would go on indefinite hiatus, stating "We are all exceptionally proud of all we have achieved as a band, but feel it is time to move on and explore new paths both musical and non- musical"[2] The band have on numerous occasions maintained YCNI:M will eventually return.
The Automatic (2007–present)
On 19 October 2007, it was announced that Mullen would join The Automatic as a second guitarist.[3] Mullen was known by the band from their collaboration between YCNI:M and The Automatic with Print Is Dead Vol 1 track "The Trapeze Artist", and a mutual friend had suggested Mullen as he was 'out of work' after the YCNI:M split. Original members Frost, Iwan and Rob had already wrote a number of tracks for a second album, and with Mullen joining the first track to be written as a group was "This Ship", and in January 2008 the band headed to America to record the album This Is a Fix.
It featured lead and backing vocals from Mullen, with tracks such as "This Is a Fix" and "Magazines" featuring Mullen's lead vocals. The band's third album Tear the Signs Down expanded upon Mullen's vocal duties with him taking lead in "High Time" and "Run & Hide".[4]
Like YCNI:M the band are currently inactive, with members currently pursuing other projects.
Young Legionnaire (2010-present)
Similarly to Mullen's joining of The Automatic, the origin of Young Legionnaire also originates from the YCNI:M Print Is Dead sessions in 2006 when Bloc Party bassist Gordon Moakes collaborated with YCNI:M on the track 'Wait a Minute'.[5] The original lineup featuring Mullen, Moakes and William Bowerman of Brontide & La Roux, however Bowerman was unable to continue playing with the band due to commitments with La Roux, subsequently leading the band to recruit Dean Pearson asa replacement drummer. The band released their debut album Crisis Works in 2011, following with an EP - Wreckonomics in 2012 before Moakes returned to working with Bloc Party again.
Losers (2011-present)
Mullen joined Tom Bellamy & Eddy Temple-Morris's band; Losers in 2011, providing synthesizers, guitars, backing & occasional lead vocals. He will make his first recorded appearance with the band in their upcoming second studio record, set for release in 2013.
Bleach Blood (2012-present)
Mullen currently plays alongside former King Blues's guitarist Jamie Jazz in Bleach Blood. The band released their debut EP titled 'The Young Heartbreakers Club in December 2012.[6]
Other projects
In 2008 Mullen worked with the Dartford based band, Codes In The Clouds, on the track "Don't Awash In This Digital Landscape", providing vocals over the original version, which was purely instrumental.[7]

Mullen has a black and white Boston Terrier called Austin, he is also fan of Sunderland A.F.C., however since moving to Cardiff with The Automatic has been unable to use his season pass.
