Biography

McCoy grew up in Florence, Mississippi, until December 1991, when his family moved to Slidell, Louisiana. He became a Christian later in life. While in 5th grade, they moved to Mandeville, Louisiana, where he stayed for the rest of his education and where his parents still live. He was signed to Wind-Up Records less than 15 months after his senior year at Fontainebleau High School. He provided guest vocals in the Evanescence song "Bring Me to Life" and appeared in the music video. The song later went on to win a Grammy Award.

Musical background

McCoy has never had any formal musical training. His dad bought him his first electric guitar from a pawn shop in Jackson, Mississippi for Christmas when he was 12 years old.
