Pau–Canfranc railway
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Pau–Canfranc railway is a partially closed 93 km (58 mi) long international single-track standard gauge railroad line connecting Pau in France and Canfranc in Spain. It opened in 1928.
The section between Oloron-Sainte-Marie and Canfranc was indefinitely closed in March 1970 due to an accident where the railway bridge of L'Estanguet near Accous was destroyed.[1] The section between Pau and Oloron is still used by TER Aquitaine passenger trains. Buses run from Oloron-Sainte-Marie to Canfranc International Railway Station. Trains still run from Canfranc and these depart to Jaca and Zaragoza.
The main stations on the line are:
- Gare de Pau (connections towards Bordeaux, Toulouse and Bayonne), and
- Gare d'Oloron-Sainte-Marie (buses to Canfranc)
- Canfranc International railway station (buses to Oloron, trains to Jaca and Zaragoza)
