Patwa Toli is a non-descript locality under the Manpur block of the Gaya district. However, youths from this area have made their home famous by cracking the IIT-JEE regularly since 1999. The locality has around 1,000 households, most of them patwas (weavers). Of them at least 200 families have at least one engineer. Around 10 families have two IITians.[1]
A hub of IITians
Patwa Toli’s tryst with the IITs began in 1991, when Jitendra Kumar became the first person from the area to qualify for the IITs. His success inspired others and from 1999 onwards 58 students have made it to the tech hubs until 2005.[2]
