Patrol (board game)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Patrol was a board wargame released in the early 1970s as a companion to Sniper! in 1974 by Simulations Publications, Inc. It billed itself as "Man to Man Combat in the 20th Century" and simulated combat from the First World War to the (then) present day. Each game turn was meant to represent 30 seconds to 5 minutes of time in real life, and each hex on the game board was meant to represent 6 square meters of terrain, or 19.5 square feet. It included rules for near all weapons used in the time periods encompassed, from Bolt Action Rifles to Flame Throwers. It also included 4 vehicle counters and rules for artillery strikes, but not for airstrikes. This could be because during the times encompassed in the game, laser designated bombs did not exist, so airstrikes could be several map boards in the game inaccurate because of the speed of the attacking plane.

When the updated 2nd edition of Sniper! was released, elements of Patrol were merged into it, and Sniper! may also be properly considered a 2nd Edition of Patrol, despite the name.
