Patrick Henry affair

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Patrick Henry affair was a French judicial affair concerning Patrick Henry, convicted for the kidnap and murder of 8-year-old Philippe Bertrand.[1] The trial began on 18 January 1977. A contentious issue in the trial was the validity of capital punishment in France; Robert Badinter, a fervent supporter of its abolition, would ultimately convince the jury to not execute his client.
