Patliputra Junction, station code PPTA, is the railway station serving the capital city of Patna in the Patna district in the Indian state of Bihar. Located 12 km north-west of Patna Junction, It has been developed as to ease the pressure on the city’s other two railway stations through which around 350 trains pass daily.[3] Patna lies in between New Delhi and Kolkata which is one of the busiest rail route in India. The city is a major railway hub and has six major stations: Patliputra Junction, Patna Junction, Rajendranagar Terminal, Gulzarbagh Station, Danapur Station, and Patna Sahib Station. Patliputra is well connected with Arrah, Buxar and Mughalsarai through daily passenger and express train services. Currently, the Indian Railways has floated tenders to construct 5 new "deluxe" toilets in each of Patna's railway station. The plan also includes the modernisation of Patliputra Junction. In 2009, the construction of India's longest road-cum-rail bridge, Ganga Rail-Road Bridge, was underway on the banks on the Ganges nearby and will connect Patna to Pahleja Ghat. The bridge is expected to be completed by end of 2015.[4] Sources say that when completed it will be 4.55 kilometres (2.83 mi) long and therefore the longest road cum rail bridge in India and one of the longest in the world.[5]

History
The Pataliputra Junction railway station was built in 2012 on Bailey Road near Rukunpura. The railway station is a part of Ganga rail-cum-road bridgeGanga Rail-Road Bridge[4] between Digha and Sonepur which will be completed by the end of 2015. This station was built an alternate to Patna Junction and Rajendranagar Terminal to decongest excess load on these stations. The station will be a terminal point for most of the train coming from North Bihar.
- New developments
In Feb 2012, The Indian Railways had planned to set up a Railway Station Development Corporation (RSDC) that will work on improving the major railway stations including Patna Junction by building and developing Restaurants, shopping areas and food plaza for commercial business and improving passenger amenities[6]
Facilities
The major facilities available are Waiting rooms, retiring room, computerized reservation facility, Reservation Counter, Vehicle parking etc.[7][8] The vehicles are allowed to enter the station premises. There are refreshment rooms vegetarian and non vegetarian, tea stall, book stall, post and telegraphic office and Government Railway police(G.R.P) office.[9] Patliputra Junction is located close to the domestic airport providing transport to important destinations to all over India.[10]
Automatic ticket vending machines have been installed to reduce the queue for train tickets on the station.[11]
Platforms
There are 3 platforms in Patliputra Junction. The platforms are interconnected with three foot over bridge (FOB). There is enough space left to build two more platforms in the future when load will increase on the station.
