Parvathipuram is a town, Municipality and Division in Vizianagaram district in Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.[1]
Geography
Parvathipuram is located at 18°46'N 83°25'E. It has an average elevation of 120 metres (393.7 feet).

Demographics
According to 1901 statistics, Parvathipuram Tahsil had an area of 799 square miles (2,070 km2), containing 498 villages. It was all Zamindari land, partly belonging to the Belgam and Parvathipuram estates, and partly to the Zamindars of Kurupam, Sangamvalsa and Merangi. Parvatipuram Tahsil had a population of 1,60,523 in 1901, compared to 1,57,014 in 1891. The Parvathipuram town had a population of 17,308 in 1901.[2]
As of 2001 India census,[3] Parvathipuram had a population of 49,692. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Parvathipuram has an average literacy rate of 66%, which is higher than the national average of 59.5%. Male literacy is 75%, and female literacy is 57%. In Parvathipuram, 12% of the population is under the age of 6 years.

Revenue Division
Parvathipuram was a Subdivision of Vizagapatam district in Madras Presidency consisting of the Zamindari Tahsils of Parvatipuram, Bissamcuttack, Rayagada, Gunupur, Bobbili and Salur in 1901.[4]
Parvathipuram revenue division in the present day Vizianagaram district consists of 15 of the 34 mandals.[5] They are Badangi, Balijipeta, Bobbili, Garugubilli, Gummalaxmipuram, Jiyyammavalasa, Komarada, Kurupam, Makkuva, Pachipenta, Parvathipuram, Ramabhadrapuram, Saluru, Seethanagaram and Therlam.

Parvathipuram started participating in the Legislative Assembly in 1951 with Vyricherla Durgaprasad Veerabhadra Deo.[6][7]

- There are three railway stations within one kilometre distance, named Parvathipuram and Parvathipuram Town & Narsipuram Halt(only passenger trains). Parvatipuram station is 145 kilometres from Visakhapatnam, Parvatipuram Town station is 146.And Narsipuram Halt is 144 kilometres from Visakhapatnam.
- RECENTLY A TRAIN began running between SAMBHALPUR and NANDED (TR.NO 18308/18310) named "NAGAWALI EXPRESS" which is the name of the river which flows through PARVATHIPURAM {on which river a dam named thotapalli barrage was in progress }
- APSRTC runs buses at the Depot Station to VISAKHAPTNAM from Parvathipuram, which has own bus depot(PPM Depot). Bus service is also available to major towns like Vizainagaram, Kakinada, Rajamundry, Vijayawada, Hyderabad, and Rayagada.
