Parekh (also spelled Parikh in some areas of Gujarat) is a widely used Vaishya surname in India, found mainly among the Gujarati Hindus and Jains. Many belong to the - nai of Gujarat. It may also be found among some Muslims of Gujarat and Pakistan.
The word Parekh means "assayer" or "examiner" in Gujarati. The surname denotes a merchant (Bania/Vaishya) ancestry. The Oswal and Porwal banias (merchants) have clans called Parekh.
