Panoor is a census town in Kannur district in the Indian state of Kerala.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[1] Panoor had a population of 23,857. Males constitute 46% of the population and females 54%. Panoor has an average literacy rate of 82%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 83%, and female literacy is 81%. In Panoor, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Location

Panoor is about 11 km from Thalassery -Tellicherry, 10 km from Kuthuparamba, 11 km from New Mahe and about 6 km from Peringathur. Near by area Arayakkol is about 2.5km. Mr M P Damodharan Nambiar's Purakkandiyil House is situated in Arayakkol.

Transportation

Panoor is on the State Highway between Mahe and Coorg. The roads in Panoor are well laid out, although the condition of the roads is generally affected during the monsoon season. The nearest entry point to the National Highway (NH 17) is Kunchippalli which is 11 kilometres far from Panoor. The nearest airport is Kozhikode and is 100 kilometres away from Panoor. Kannur International Airport is coming up at Mattanur, and is just about 20 kilometres away from Panoor. Nearest railway station is Thalassery which is about 11 km way from Panoor.
