Palamaner or Palamaneru is a small town in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, India. Palamaner is 192 km from Chennai, 136 km from Bangalore and 108 km from Tirupati.

Etymology

The name "Palamaner" originated from "Pallavan yeri", meaning lake dug by Pallavas. "Yeri" in Tamil means lake.

Geography

Palamaner is located in Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh at 13°12′00″N 78°45′00″E / 13.2000°N 78.7500°E / 13.2000; 78.7500.[1] It has an average elevation of 683 meters (2,244 ft).

Climate

The minimum temperature hovers between 12 to 28 degrees all round the year.

Economy

The major investments are in dairy and poultry because the climate suits these businesses. Palamaner was popular for roof tile manufacturing. The rural areas near Palamaner are famous for their silk production. The government has decided to set up a textile park in 500 acres (2.0 km2) of Palamaner. Palamaner has a tomato commission market, where farmers from different parts of the district come to sell tomatoes. Every Friday, many farmers gather in the market area to sell vegetables, fruits, food grains, dry fish, household articles etc. There are many small scale industries developing in and around Palamaner and the government is giving aid to develop such industries.

Palmaner is located on the National Highway 4 which connects Bangalore and Chennai.

Places of interest

  • About 20 km southwest of Palamaner, there is a waterfalls called Kaigal Water Falls. About 7 km to the south, is a lake called “Kalyana Revu”. South of Kalyana Revu, there is the Ganganna Sirassu Waterfalls. Gantavooru is famous for pottery designing works and Lord Shaneswara temple. Also 1 km distance from Gantavooru is Lord Anjaneya temple, which is on the way of NH4 Highway. KonetiRayala Swamy Templein Keelapatla is one of the most famous historical temples that is located 8 km towards the northeast of Palamaner. Varadaraja Swamy Temple in Kurmai is located 4 km from Palamaner which was built by Pallavas. The forests of Palmaner have been declared as an elephant sanctuary, the Koundinya Wildlife Sanctuary, by Government of India.
    • Sri Sai Baba Temple located in Gangavaram road, 1KM from Palamaner. Frequent Autos are available from Padmashri Theater, Palamaner. The temple is having a history of 15 Years. Every Thursday a free bus is arranged to reach the temple. It is one of the most powerful temple in Palamaner. Temple serves a free meals in the afternoon of every Thursday.
    • Sri Veera Vijaya Anjaneya Swamy temple located in D.P Palayam village 20 Kilo Meters from Chittoor. Frequent Buses are available from APSRTC that ply towards Gudiyattam and Private Services to reach Paradarami. From Paradarami number of auto Services and TNSTC, APSRTC and private buses are available to reach the temple
