Pablo Sarabia García (born 11 May 1992 in Madrid) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays for Getafe CF in La Liga. Mainly an attacking midfielder, he can also play as a winger.[1][2]
Club career
Sarabia played in the Escuela de Fútbol Madrid Oeste de Boadilla del Monte football academy until 2004, when Real Madrid signed him at the age of 12.[1] After appearing for various of its youth teams, he made his professional debut in Segunda División B against AD Alcorcón, on 3 January 2010.[3] Two weeks later, he scored his first goal for Real Madrid Castilla, in a 5–2 home win against Racing de Santander B.[4]
In December 2010, Sarabia was called by the first team for the first time, for a UEFA Champions League home fixture against AJ Auxerre.[5] He was given number 33 and replaced Cristiano Ronaldo in the 72nd minute of a 4–0 group stage win, on the 8th.[6] After his debut, the player stated: "This was a tremendous night that I will never forget".[7]
In his second season with Castilla, manager Alberto Toril assigned Sarabia a major role in the team's game, moving him from his usual winger position to attacking midfielder. He responded by scoring 12 goals in the league, third-best in the squad behind Joselu and Álvaro Morata (14 apiece),[2] as the reserves eventually fell short in the promotion playoffs.
On 3 July 2011, Sarabia signed a five-year contract with Madrid neighbours Getafe CF, for a reported fee of around €3 million, with Real Madrid being able to buy the player back after his second season.[8]
International career
In 2008, Sarabia made his first appearance for the Spanish under-U16s. He appeared with the U17 at the 2009 FIFA World Cup in Nigeria, playing in all seven games (one goal) as the national team finished in third place.
In 2011 Sarabia featured as captain in Spain's campaign in the UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship, which ended in conquest.
