Oxytelinae Fleming 1821 are a subfamily of Staphylinidae.[1]

Anatomy

  • Unique pair of defensive glands opening onto the ninth tergum.
  • Most with 7 complete sterna visible.
  • Tarsi 2-2-2, 3-3-3, 4-4-4, 5-5-5.

Ecology

  • Habitat: generally found in moist places: moss along streams, leaf litter, beaches, etc.
  • Collection Method: sift/Berlese forest litter.
  • Biology: poorly known.

Systematics

Seventeen genera and 262 species in North America.
