Andrés Oswal Álvarez Salazar (born 11 June 1995), better known as Oswal Álvarez is a Colombian footballer who currently plays as a forward for Anderlecht in the Belgian Pro League.

Club career

Academia

Oswal Álvarez grew up in Colombia, at the border with Venezuela. As a striker he impressed his trainers already at young age. Despite his small posture he has the reputation to dispose of a strong body. This resulted in his nickname "Búfalo de Maicao", meaning "Buffalo from Maicao". In July 2011 the at that time only 16-year old Alvarez became part of Academia FC's first squad.

In September 2011 former Belgian football player and scout Gunther Schepens noticed him and passed his name to AA Gent. The East-Flemish club tried to invite the Colombian to Belgium, but did not succeed in this because of several problems.^[2] A couple of months later Academia met other city team and highest league club Millonarios in a cup match. Álvarez excelled, he scored a hat-trick and guided his team to a convincing 5-2 win. This prestation drew attention and suddenly many teams showed interest in the Colombian. Werner Deraeve went to scout the young attacker as delegate of RSC Anderlecht.

RSC Anderlecht

In April 2012 Álvarez travelled to Brussels with his family. At Anderlecht he signed a contract for 5 seasons.^[3] In his first season he participated at NextGen Series with Les Mauves.
