Osmany Juantorena Portuondo (born 12 August 1985) is an Italian-Cuban[1] volleyball player. He currently plays as side attacker for Halkbank Ankara. He is a nephew of Alberto Juantorena, a Cuban former track runner and politician.
Personal and early life
Juantorena was born in Santiago de Cuba.
Career
He debuted in the Cuban first series aged 12, in the Orientales de Santiago. He remained in Cuba for seven years, before moving to Russian side Ural Ufa. In the meantime he also began to play for Cuba's national team, winning the bronze medal in the 2005 World League and scoring a total 75 caps.
In the late 2006 Juantorena was disqualified for two years after testing positive for Testosterone during the Central American and Caribbean Games.[2] His return was delayed by the Cuban Volleyball Federation due to his decision to move to play to Italy. He remained in Trento until he could return to play in 2009. Playing for Trentino Volley, he won the FIVB Club World Championship, the Italian Cup and a European Champions League (he also obtained the title of MVP in the competition) in 2010.
In May 2010 he played for a short loan in Qatar. He returned to Trentino Volley in September 2010.
