Ormiston Venture Academy is a secondary school located at Oriel Avenue, Gorleston on-Sea. The school is housed in a block constructed in 2008 and a second newer building that stands where the original building, constructed in 1954, was located. The present facility includes a new reception area, library, and classrooms.
History
Originally named Oriel Grammar School, it was opened in 1954 to serve the Magdalen Estate. It has gone through many different names, including the Oriel Specialist Maths and Computing College. In 2008, the school was completely renovated, including construction of a new block and a sports hall and a revamp of the original classrooms and corridors.[citation needed] Due to funding problems some of the classrooms are still awaiting completion and remain in their original state.
The current principal as of 2013 is Nicole McCartney.[1] The Academy has been refitted with new computers, a new reception and more staff. The school is now sponsored by the Ormiston Academies Trust.
Construction project
In August 2012, work began on a new staff car park and bus area, as well as the refitting of the Sports Area and Boys' changing rooms. The old building was demolished in November 2012. Work then began on the new building, which was completed by September 2013. Demolition of the old A Block building was then started and the project is still underway.
