Oribe Peralta Morones (born 12 January 1984) is a Mexican professional footballer who plays as a striker for Santos Laguna of the Liga Bancomer MX and the Mexico national team. Peralta scored two goals in the gold medal match at the 2012 Olympic football tournament against Brazil, which was the first Olympic gold medal for Mexico in football.
Club career
Morelia
A native of Torreón, Peralta made his debut for Morelia coming in as a substitute in the second half against Club América in a 2–1 defeat. Peralta then played his second match of his first season against Cruz Azul. For the next two seasons Peralta did not see any action and then was transferred to Monterrey.[2]
Monterrey
After playing for Morelia, Peralta then joined Monterrey to play for the next two seasons. Peralta made his debut for Monterrey against the Tigres in the second half as a substitute, losing 6–2 defeat. In his second match, he scored his first goal of his career coming in as a substitute, scoring the second goal of the match against Cruz Azul going on to win the match 3–0. Peralta ended his first season with five goals in 22 matches and making it to the finals to lose to the Pumas.
Peralta then started his second season as a substitute and scored a goal in his second match. For the next four matches, he was used as a substitute until he made his second start against Puebla, scoring his second goal of the season. He ended the season with four goals.
For the next two seasons, Peralta received less playing time, only scoring two goals in 22 matches.
Santos Laguna
After playing for Monterrey, Peralta moved to Santos Laguna. He made his debut against Monterrey, his former club, scoring his first goal in his first start of the season. Peralta ended the season with three goals in 17 matches with two assists. He is currently Santos Laguna's main striker and has scored over seventy goals during his ongoing spell with the club.
International career
Peralta has made several appearances for Mexico. He was included in the preparations for the 2006 World Cup but did not make the squad.[2] Peralta scored his first international goal against the United States in a match that ended in a 1–1 draw scoring at the 17th minute. Peralta then scored his second goal playing against Venezuela in a 3–1 win.
2011 Copa América
He was a member of the Mexico side that participated in the 2011 Copa América, and had a limited role as a reserve.[3]
2011 Pan American Games
Peralta won the gold medal at 2011 Panamerica Games and was also the tournament's top scorer with six goals. At the start of the tournament, Peralta scored his first goal in a 2–1 win against Ecuador in the 25th minute. He scored a goal to draw the match against Trinidad and Tobago, which ended 1–1. In the next match against Uruguay, Peralta scored a goal in a 5–2 win. Peralta scored a hat-trick against Costa Rica to make it to the finals against Argentina.
2012 Summer Olympics
Peralta was part of the Mexican Gold medal winner team at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, beating Brazil 2–1. His first goal was scored in just 29 seconds, making it the fastest Olympic goal in the Summer Olympics and in any FIFA tournament final. He was the top scorer for Mexico with four goals in the tournament, two of which came in the gold medal match.
