Ordzhonikidze (Ukrainian: Орджонікідзе; Russian: Орджоникидзе) is a mining city of oblast subordinance in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast of central Ukraine. It is located at around 47°40′N 34°3′E / 47.667°N 34.050°E / 47.667; 34.050Coordinates: 47°40′N 34°3′E / 47.667°N 34.050°E / 47.667; 34.050. The city is named after Sergo Ordzhonikidze.

History

The city was founded in 1883 as a mining town named Prychepylivtsi near a manganese mine which still dominates the life of the city. Ordzhonikidze is located on the site of the 17th century Chortomlyk Sich.
