The Ophiusina are a subtribe of noctuoid moths. As such, they are placed in the tribe Catocalini of subfamily Catocalinae in the owlet moth family (Noctuidae). They do not seem to be very closely related to the Noctuinae the core group of owlet moths and in an alternate classification scheme, the Noctuidae are reduced in extent, and the present group is placed in a separate noctuoid family Erebidae and upranked to full tribe Ophiusini within the Catocalinae (sometimes called Erebinae in this case).[2]

Be that as it may, the Ophiusina/Ophiusini are the most successful of the major radiations of their subfamily. And at the same time, several smaller groups typically tribes placed alongside the Ophiusini when the Ophiusina are ranked as such are included here, as their respective type species seem to be part of the same catocaline clade as Ophiusa.[1]

Genera

As numerous catocaline genera have not yet been assigned to a tribe, the genus lists should be considered preliminary. Some genera are generally assigned here, others are not. The former group encompasses:[2]

Among the Catocalinae incertae sedis, the following in particular have been considered as members of the Ophiusina:[3]

Some noctu(o)id moths of more unclear affiliations are also sometimes proposed for inclusion in the Ophiusina. Apart from Amolita which is otherwise placed in the owlet moth subfamily Acronictinae or among the Hadeninae incertae sedis, these are all genera which have alternatively been considered Calpinae incertae sedis:[3]
