Review
We knew that Storaas compose exelent music for big band from his collaboration with the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, but a septet lineup is a completely different world. The tradition is challenging with its long roots in American 1950th century West Coast jazz, and it's refreshing that Storaas take up this today almost forgotten legacy. For here is no question of re-creation of an old phrase, but the continuation of it in our time. Vigleik Storaas master the craft, and arrange the four blowers colorful and exciting. From unison and harmonic line performance to rich timbres that explores old and new possibilities. Reviewer Erling Wicklund of the Norwegian radio broadcasting NRK states:
... And bandleader Vigleik Storaas is himself delightfully impossible to classify and diverse, both as pianist and composer. So then you just have to enjoy the septet-jazz rebirth in Norway...[2] |
