Opel Wien GmbH[2] (formerly GM Powertrain Austria GmbH) is an Austrian manufacturing company based in Vienna/Aspern, Austria and a subsidiary of General Motors. It currently produces engines and transmissions.

History

The Austrian Chancellor Dr. Bruno Kreisky and GM Austria Chairman Helmuth Schimpf signed a contract to build an engine plant in Vienna/Aspern on August, 23rd 1979. The investment amounted to over 9,8 billion Schilling.

Products

Opel Wien GmbH produces three- and four cylinder Twinport Ecotec high torque engines with a size of 1.0 to 1.4 liters. In January 2010, the production of a new turbocharged variant of the 1.4 engine started. The five-speed transmission with a torque of 170 to 190 newton meters is produced for petrol and diesel engines with a maximum engine size of 1.8 liters.
