Oliver Hoyte (born September 8, 1984) is an American football linebacker in the National Football League. He was signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2006. After earning a roster spot as a reserve linebacker and a solid special teams prospect, Hoyte took advantage of a mid-season position switch to fullback and performed with a high level of productivity. After a rookie year of learning under fire, Hoyte racked up 19 starts at fullback and saw plenty of action with the Dallas regular offense during 2006 and 2007 campaign. He eventually grew into a key role player on an offensive unit that enjoyed one of the most productive seasons in club history. He played college football at North Carolina State.
Early years
He played for North Carolina State University, where he was a three-year starter at linebacker. Even though he came off the field in passing situations, he registered 93 tackles as a junior and 79 tackles as a senior. He was part of a defense that included Manny Lawson and Mario Williams.
Professional career
Dallas Cowboys
In 2006 he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys. The team decided to convert him from linebacker to fullback in the middle of his rookie season. He was released before the 2008 season started due to injury, after playing in 24 games during his two years with the team.[1]
Kansas City Chiefs
In the 2008 offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs claimed him off waivers.[2] During training camp, the team played him at linebacker. After a strong preseason showing at linebacker Hoyte was released before the season started once again due to injury.
