Oldham College, is a further education college based in Oldham, Greater Manchester, England.
History
Oldham College was founded in 1893 when a donation from the Platt Brothers led to the establishment of the school of art and science in the town. This majestic building on Union Street still survives to this day.
In the post war years it became increasingly apparent that the college needed to expand to support the growing textile and engineering industries which dominated the local economy. In 1954 the new Oldham Technical College opened on Rochdale Road.
In 1987 The College dropped the word "Technical" from its name to reflect the much broader range of courses it offered. Today the College continues to offer a wide range of vocational courses, both full and part-time.
In 2010 the college became a sponsor of Waterhead Academy and Stoneleigh Academy in Oldham.[1]
Present Day
The College currently has over 10,000 students studying over 900 courses, making it the largest centre of further education in Oldham. It is in the top 10% of colleges in the country; rated "outstanding" [2] by Ofsted, and holds LSIS Beacon Status.[3] Status for excellence in its delivery of learning skills.
Curriculum
The College offers a range of vocational courses aimed at 16–19 year olds, adults, businesses and Apprenticeship schemes.
