Ohayocon is a three day anime convention held during January in Columbus, Ohio at the Hyatt Regency Columbus and Columbus Convention Center. Ohayocon's name is from the similarity between "Ohio", the convention's location, and Ohayo (おはよう Ohayou), which in the Japanese language means "Good morning".[1][2][3]

Programming

The convention typically offers an AMV contest, Artists Alley, costume contests, Dealer’s Room, formal ball, masquerade, musical events, panel discussions, rave, table-top games, and video gaming.[1][3][4][5][6][7]

History

In 2007 the Midwest premier of Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles occurred at the Arena Grand Theatre during Ohayocon.[8] In 2010 crowding was a problem during the rave due to space issues. The convention shared the Columbus Convention Center with other events and only used about an fourth of the available space.[4] The conventions dance was moved to the convention center ballroom in 2012 to alleviate crowding issues.[6] Ohayocon began using wristbands instead of badges to control unpaid attendance in 2014.[9]
