Oberotterbach is a municipality in Südliche Weinstraße district, in Rhineland-Palatinate, western Germany.

Geography

The city is located between the biosphere reserve Palatine Forrest and the Rhine river.

Part of Oberotterbach are also the settlements Brendelsmühle and Heidenbrunnenhof.[2]

History

The city was first mentioned in 992 within a deed of donation from emperor Otto III. to the monestry Selz located in the Elsas area.

Religion

In 2007, 55,6 percent of the population were protestant and were 25,4 percent catholic. The others are listed with no preference or non-religious. [3]

Gemeinderat

Local Council Gemeinderat in Oberotterbach consists of 16 council members, which have been elected on june 7th 2009 and are subordinated to the voluntary mayor as their chairman.

Code of Arms

The blazon of the code of arms are: „Parteed and separeted above, documented with the silver heart shield , within a red armored and defeated blue lion , on top heraldic in black a red armored and defeated gold lion. On top on the left it is silver and blue lozenged, loctated at the bottom in green is a silver silberner an angular wave bar aside from silver spheres“.

It was approved from the bavarian Reich governor in 1938 and can be dated back to a seal from 1558.[4]

  • Ruin of the stronghold Guttenberg located in the Mundatwald; Lookt out tower Staeffelsbergturm (1887)
  • Westwall-Hiking Trail – comprising a ten kilometer long hiking trail along blasted bunkers and war trenches since june 2009.
