History

1884: On April 1st, a class 5 tornado struck Oakville, Indiana killing 8 people and destroying much of the town.
Among contemporary meteorologists, this was considered one of the most intense tornadoes observed up to that time. Parts of Oakville "vanished", with house debris scattered for miles.1887: Historical property maps can be found at Ball State University Digital Media Repository
