OPET
OPET Petrolcülük A.Ş. engages in retail sales, and the sales of commercial and industrial fuels, mineral oils, warehousing and international sales.
OPET Petroleum’s roots go back to a fuel oil distribution company, "Öztürkler Petrol" founded by Fikret Öztürk. The successful company was transferred to OPET in 1992, and rapid development in the following years helped achieving its leading position today.[citation needed]
History
Having a 50% partnership with Koç Holding Energy Group as of the end of 2002, OPET has focused on infrastructure investments since its inception. OPET’s warehousing capacity has reached 1.076.318 cubic meters as of 2010. OPET is the first firm ever to have brought 98 octane unleaded fuel to Turkey and introduced Ultra Euro Diesel fuel to the Turkish consumers before it was launched in the European market. Still being the 3rd biggest fuel oil distribution company of Turkey, OPET has more than 1200 gas stations along with its SUNPET trademark.[1]
Social responsibility
OPET's social responsibility projects that have been materialized and still in progress all across Turkey are as follows:
- Respect for History Project
- Exemplary Village Project
- Green Road Project
- Clean Toilet campaign
Respect for History Project
With the Respect for History Project, launched in February 2006, a great transformation has taken place within the borders of Gallipoli Peninsula Historical National Park.[2]
The Project includes physical and social works that would enable domestic and foreign tourists visiting the area to wander around the villages of Eceabat without any problems. The villages Alçıtepe, Seddülbahir, Bigalı, Kilitbahir, Kocadere, Behramlı, Büyükanafarta ve Küçükanafarta included in the area that witnessed to the Gallipoli Campaign as well as the county of Eceabat have been rehabilitated and given a new look.[2] The village squares, museums, modern toilets and renewed sales stands that have been given a modern look within the scope of renewal works helped revive the regional tourism and improved the revenues of village governors. In the region that is visited by two million tourists a year, the employees serving tourists have been given trainings through the cooperation of Eceabat Public Training Directorate. Nearly 150 persons attending such courses as English, boarding house keeping, cleaning and hygiene have received their respective certificates.[2]
Outer sides of all homes where Project is applied and in Eceabat were painted and gained a clean look. Juvenile Center was renewed also and started to serve, where students visiting the region can accommodate. An park was constructed on Eceabat coast, resembling an open air museum. “Respect to the History Park”, an integral symbol of the region, was so much equipped to show all details of Çanakkale War. The park was intended to undertake a teaching role to make people see war period at place and with applications.[2] With 57th Regiment Martyrdom Renewal Project, applied together with Gelibolu Peninsula Historical National Parks Directorate, was added again to historical values with a proper organization worth for our martyrs who fought heroically. Respect to the History Project, was conferred the "Jury Special Award" in the 7th Gold Compass Prizes, organized by TÜHİD (Turkish Association for Public Relations) in 2008. The Project received the Jury Special Award, in the Most Successful Koç’s Competition, organized by KOÇ Community in 2009.[2]
Sample Village Project
OPET, starting the way with the aim of creating a conscious society, targets that far villages come closer, can manage on their own, and that their historical, geographical and cultural potential are benefited from, and also social indications such as the increase in education level, development in the environmental awareness. Within scope of this Project many studies are being carried out from physical appearance of the villages to cultural and social development as well as from special courses to such activities increasing the income.[3]
Green Way Project
Green Way Project has been applied since 2004 with the aim of drawing attention to the importance of the increasingly lessening green of the world in our life. Green Way Project, which OPET started to realize with a slogan of "Losing green is losing life", makes an important contribution to formation of green areas in our company. “Green Way Project” initially aims to green the area of 1.5 km at OPET stations and the vicinity. It is aimed that the campaign will last 10 years and more than half millions of trees will be planted on the Turkish highways. Within scope of the Project, 503 thousands 117 plants, suitable to regional climate and soil conditions, have been planted so far at 613 stations and clearance areas designated by municipalities. Green Way Project, was granted Gold Compass Award, in the category of corporate social responsibility, about environment, in 5th Gold Compass Prizes of TÜHİD (Turkish Association for Public Relations).[4]
Clean Toilet Project
Clean Toilet Campaign, which OPET has applied since 2000 and one of the longest social projects made in Turkey, aims an important problem of Turkey. Clean Toilet Campaign, is being carried out to bring issues of "toilet cleanliness and hygiene" to the agenda of Turkey and to contribute to raise an awareness on this matter. OPET, which first started with its own stations, spread the project throughout Turkey in time, emphasized its difference not only with standard corporate appearance and service quality at OPET stations but also with the importance it gives to cleanliness and hygiene and succeeded to make it a permanent aspect.[5]
