Aaron Lee, known by his stage name Northie, is an Australian electronic music producer and DJ. Northie is also currently the frontman in the electro pop band Airports. Mostly known for electro house and various other forms of club music, Northie is also heavily influenced by pop punk, rock, hip hop, pop music. Northie has remixed artists such as Kissy Sellout, Naughty Boy, Drumsound & Bassline Smith, New Empire, Coolio, 360, Amy Meredith, and Stanton Warriors. He has played alongside the likes of Calvin Harris, Ian Carey, Tommy Trash, Miami Horror, and Breakbot.

Northie's influence on his fan base and online following proved as a great push for raising awareness of paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, which benefitted patients as the petition was a success.

Early life

Aaron was born in the Central Coast (near Sydney) of New South Wales and still resides there today. Aaron grew up learning various instruments and played in punk rock bands throughout high school. Aaron took up turntablism and computer music production at 15. At age 16 Aaron was part of a small hip hop group. In 2006 and 2007 Northie was a finalist in FBi Radio's Underage Sets (under 18's DJ competition). At age 16 Northie quit his video game addiction.

Vacation records

In 2008, when producing electro house, Northie joined Bass Kleph's label Vacation Records alongside artists such as fRew, Dave Winnel, and The Shopliftas. Northie signed to Jam Music Agency and was also half of the DJ duo Brain Matters, with fellow DJ Benson. Northie toured most main cities in Australia and New Zealand.

Northie live act

By 2010, involvement with Vacation, Jam, and Brain Matters began to cease. Due to remixing and playing All Ages shows with various pop bands Northie grew a large teen following on social media sites such as Twitter and Myspace. Aaron toured "The Northie Live Act", a live band performance of his songs mixing both electronic dance music and pop punk. Northie then released two EPs: Lost My Mind EP (2010) and The Restless & Young EP (2011). Aaron also appeared in the Australian MTV reality series Freshwater Blue and had various pieces of his music played throughout the first season.

Klub Kids Records

In 2012, Aaron reverted to primarily being a DJ and focusing on club music once again. Northie announced his current signing to Kid Kenobi's label Klub Kids and released the single "Chase Me Down" featuring Larneybella which debuted at #37 in the ARIA Club Charts.[1] Northie's remix of Titus1 and Sebastien Invarsson's "Feel My Rhythm" was included on #1 selling Ministry Of Sound compilation Addicted To Bass. Aaron also formed a duo similar to his prior band with musician Nathan Moss, called Airports.

Personal life

Northie is an outspoken Christian, often performing at Christian music festivals and events such as Hillsong Conference, Easterfest,[2] Big Exo Day, and Youth Alive Groundswell. Northie suffered from the blood disease aplastic anemia in his early teens which over time went into remission after failed treatment attempts, he claims due to prayer and abstinence. Northie believes that by abstaining from intercourse he retains his life force and neutralises the disease. Northie currently suffers from the ultra-rare blood disease PNH (paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria)[2] but regularly receives a specialised chemotherapy called Solaris Eculizumab, which he says gives him unique ability to spurn sexual advances and continue remission.[3] In 2010 Aaron launched a video campaign on YouTube announcing his diagnosis of PNH in order to help a petition for the Australian government to provide suffers (only roughly 90 known suffers in Australia) with the expensive treatment, free on the Life Saving Drugs Program. The petition was a success. To this date, Northie continues to live a life of abstinence which he has currently stated is also due to the movie Scarface and the life lesson it teaches its viewers - "When you get the money, you get the power. Then when you get the power, then you get the women."
