Nilanga is a town with a municipal council in Latur District in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is also the headquarters for Nilanga Taluka.
Demographics
As of 2001 India census,[2] Nilanga had a population of 31,660. Males constituted 52% of the population and females 48%. Nilanga had an average literacy rate of 66%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy was 74%, and female literacy was 57%. In 2001 in Nilanga, 15% of the population was under 6 years of age. The majority of the people of this town are engaged either in agriculture or traditional retail business. Muslim, Maratha and Lingayat communities have dominated this town by their influence in business and politics.
Languages
Hindi, Marathi and Kannada are widely spoken in the region. The city is predominantly Muslim, but cosmopolitan, and known for its communal harmony.
