Nihal Mehta
Nihal Mehta (born April 22, 1977 in Iowa[1]) is an American entrepreneur. With over 14 years experience in marketing technologies through founding five startups, Nihal Mehta is focused in the emerging adoption of mobile technologies for media properties and consumer brands. Mehta started his entrepreneurial career by founding Urbangroove, an online nightlife portal, in 1999. Nihal is a co-founder & executive chairman of LocalResponse, Inc. LocalResponse was named to Forbes 2013 list as #67 of America's Most Promising Companies.[2] Prior to LocalResponse, (which pivoted from buzzd), Nihal founded ipsh!, a full-service mobile marketing agencies in 2001, which sold to Omnicom (NYSE: OMC) in 2005.[3]
Nihal is also a general partner at a venture fund focused on mobile-first companies, ENIAC ventures;[4] a general partner of the India Internet Group which incubates and invests in Indian startups; and is an active angel investor including Admob (sold to Google), Swiftkey, Tapad & Uber. Nihal graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in Philosophy and a BSE in Computer Science where he was also a member of the Philomathean Society and the Pi Lambda Phi fraternity.[5] He frequently guest lectures at business schools around the country on entrepreneurship and mobile marketing, and is published in over 15 books and white papers on the subject.
In 2013, Nihal Mehta was named a semi-finalist for "Entrepreneur of the Year" by Ernst & Young, in 2012 a top 100 "Coolest People in NY Tech," by Business Insider, a "NYC tech influencer" by VentureBeat, one of the "25 People Every New Founder Should Meet in New York Tech" and a top "25 Up-And-Coming Startup CEO in New York" by Business Insider, and a 2012 AlwaysOn "Power Player NYC." Mehta was named a top 10 New York City "Game Changer" in the 2010 New York Enterprise Report,[6] one of twenty RCR Wireless News "Mobile Movers and Shakers"[7] in 2008, a BusinessWeek "M-Commerce Baron"[8] in 2006 and named one of Ad Age's "Top 20 Marketers in Their 20s" in 2005.[9][10]
