Nightwatch is a 1997 American horror-thriller film directed by Ole Bornedal, and starring Ewan McGregor, Patricia Arquette, Josh Brolin and Nick Nolte. It is a remake of the Danish film Nattevagten (1994), which was also directed by Bornedal.

Plot

Martin is a law school student who takes a job as a night watchman at a morgue. When a necrophiliac serial killer begins plaguing the city, Martin finds himself the target of the madman's wrath. The killer seems to be trying to frame Martin; and, when semen is found at the scene of one murder which matches Martin's, he is nearly charged with the murders until his friend James gives crucial evidence which points away from Martin. Martin begins to lose his grip on reality, and, when he is finally kidnapped by the detective in charge of the killings, it is revealed that the detective himself is the killer and planted semen of Martin's to cast suspicion away from himself.
