NEE employs about 15,000 and operates 43,000 megawatts (MW) of generating capacity in 28 US states and three Canadian provinces. The company had 2010 revenues of $15.3 billion and net income of $2.0 billion. NEE is listed as #161 in the 2011 Fortune 200.[2][3]

NEE has three subsidiaries: NextEra Energy Resources (NER), Florida Power & Light (FPL), and FPL FiberNet.

FPL delivers rate-regulated electricity to 4.5 million customers in Florida and is the US's third largest utility company. FPL is the largest of the three subsidiaries that NextEra Energy Inc. owns today.[2]

NER is the largest North American producer of wind and solar energy. NER operates Solar Energy Generating Systems (SEGS), the world's largest solar power generating facility. In addition to wind and solar, NextEra Energy Resources owns and operates generating plants powered by natural gas, nuclear fuel, and oil. The largest of its hydro plants is Harris Station Dam in northern Maine, impounding the Kennebec River to produce about 86 megawatts.

FPL FiberNet is a leading provider of fiber-optic solutions in the Florida and Texas areas. FPL FiberNet was started by Florida Power and Light Company (FPL) in the 1980s selling excess space on the company's fiber-optic infrastructure. FPL FiberNet as it is known today was founded in 2000.

In March 2011, NEE was listed by Fortune Magazine as the most admired company in the industry of electric and gas utilities.[4]
