New Tredegar

New Tredegar (Welsh: Tredegar Newydd) is a former mining community in the Rhymney Valley, Caerphilly county borough, Wales , within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire.

New Tredegar is home to The Winding House, is now home to a county museum which opened in 2008. It is controlled by CCBC Museums service and the Friends of the Winding House community group.

The area is rich in the mining heritage of the South Wales mining industry.

  • Tim Rhys-Evans, was a vocal tutor at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.[1] He has conducted several choirs, including The Black Mountain Male Chorus of Wales and Dunvant Male Choir.[2] He founded Only Men Aloud! in 2000[3] and led them to victory in the Last Choir Standing competition in 2008. In August 2010, Rhys-Evans was one of several new members admitted to the Gorsedd of bards at the National Eisteddfod of Wales. He was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2013 Birthday Honours for services to music and for charitable services.[4]
